Tangleation and an Audio Meditation

This week Cami and I taught a Beyond the Basics Zentangle class, Tangleation Exploration. It was a blast! We explored many versions of Cadent in this class. (A special shout out to Margaret Bremner for her oh-so-wonderful ...and then some series! Thanks!) We were so busy working tangle after tangle that the two hours went by in a flash, and class had to end!

Lots of Cadent Variations!
I was disappointed that we didn't have time to work through a traditional tile in class. I woke up in the middle of the night with an idea... What if I sent my students a "bonus" with my wrap up email? The bonus of an audio meditation for a bijou tile. I became very excited about this! I decided to give it a try.

I had fun figuring out how I was going to do the audio, and creating it. I have been wanting to try this since being led through an audio meditation by Molly Hollibaugh at CZT Seminar last year. I sent the finished audio to my daughter. She and her boyfriend gave it a try and sent me the results... So. Awesome.  It made me think... I wonder if I can add this to my blog... a little fun for all! It would be so cool to see everyone's interpretation, especially as they won't have a preconceived notion of what tangle they are creating... you just listen... and draw... there are NO MISTAKES. So... let's give it a try!

Get ready! Grab a bijou tile (or 2 inches by 2 inches square tile), micron 01 pen, pencil, and tortillon (or stump, or q-tip for blending). Find a nice quiet place, and take the next 10 to 15 minutes to listen, and create... one stroke at a time.

(If you are on a mobile device you may need to click "Watch on Vimeo" to play.)

When you finish your tile please take a photo and add it to your blog/flickr/instagram etc. Then comment here and include the link in your comment so I (and all who have completed the challenge... no cheating... don't look before you do it!) can check it out! I would like to post a new audio meditation every few weeks. We'll see how you like it and go from there!

I hope you participate! I can't wait to see the results and hear what you think!

  1. Great job on the meditation! Your voice was so soothing, just perfect for this challenge. It was a perfect way to start my day at 4:30 A.M.! Coffee and Bijou! Thanks. Here is my tile: http://caroldeezigns.blogspot.com/2015/02/tangle-meditation-with-holly-ha-designs.html

  2. Lovely clear meditation. I've done this 2x with Molly so I felt free to depart from the instructions a couple of places, including starting with the fact that I didn't have a Bijou tile handy so used a regular tile. I just tried uploading the result here as you

    1. Thank you so much! You definitely had an advantage as you have done this two times with the "master" herself! She is definitely an inspiration!

You won't be able to post the photo here... Just a link... that way the mystery will stay hidden (hopefully) until the meditation is complete. (Link to a blog post, flickr, instagram, Facebook... just make sure that you allow visitors to view your entry, check privacy settings for that item.) After completion the participants can view the other challenge results. I'm figuring this out as I go along... but I think that may be the best way for now.

      Thanks so much for participating!

  6. My husband and I were in that CZT class and I've wanted to do something like this. Thank you so much! I will always give you credit and like Lianne will most likely add it to my blog. Will it ever be made available as an MP3 download?

    1. Hi Judith!

That is so exciting that you and your husband attended seminar together! I know it was one of the most special events, and I feel so blessed to have been able to share that with both of my daughters. I am so glad that you enjoyed the audio meditation! Thanks!

That's a good question, Judith... I am not certain about the MP3 download yet. I'll see how the response is and go from there. I am finding that my "free hosting site" of the audio has nearly reached the limit (lots of listeners) and I'll have to pay for service soon. I may have to add a "donation" button to help offset the cost... Just working on figuring it out as I go along!

Thanks again for participating and leaving such a lovely comment!

  8. I came across this blog post last week and shared it with the friend I've been tangling with. We just tried the first meditation today and really enjoyed it. We were quite interested to see how different our tiles came out, even listening to the same audio. Neither of us has a place to upload the tiles, so I can't post a link at this time. But we're looking forward to trying your other meditation and hope you post more soon.

  10. I really enjoyed the meditation. I loved how you left the end of the meditation very open-ended, allowing time for finishing at the listener's own pace. Thanks also for all the links to others' tiles. Here's mine:
